The Electric Bike But why electric bicycles? This is because we are convinced that now is the right time for the electric bike. In China there are electric bikes everywhere in the cities. The need for a sustainable future demands that we all reduce our carbon footprint; What makes us so convinced about the electric bike however is not just its green credentials, but our own experience of using them. They are so much fun to ride. Whereas we’ve always had our pushbikes in the garage like most people we use them at most once a week. But now we have electric bikes we look forward to using them for all those local journeys that were just a bit too far for cycling. Electric bicycles work with a mixture of pedal power and electric motor. As soon as you start to pedal you feel a push forward as the motor engages. This flattens hills and makes cycling such fun! You can vary the exercise you get by putting as much or as little effort into the pedalling as you like. Of course you can also just switch off the motor and use it as an ordinary bike. The bikes we’ve chosen have lithium ion or lithium iron phosphate batteries. These are light weight and long lasting. They can be charged by plugging into the mains electricity supply. Because they use brushless electric motors these bikes are virtually maintenance free apart from the brakes and gears common to all bikes. |
